mood: relieved relieved

Yesterday, I drove just shy of 700km (435 miles) in blizzard-like conditions, white-out conditions, closed-highway conditions, black-ice highway sections, etc.

I managed to take the wrong exit out of Calgary (well, not wrong, just not my anticipated exit), and was "lost" on random back-roads between Strathmore and Brooks for about 45 minutes until I saw a truck merely tap its brakes, do a couple 360s, then hit the ditch. I then decided calling someone who knew the area would be my best bet (my dad, he grew up around there) and I eventually wound up at the Siksika Reserve Gas Station (where I've been before, but when Shayne was driving)--I swear, it was the happiest I've ever been in my life to see a gas station.

I saw roughly two dozen cars in the ditch (cars, trucks, SUVs, 4-wheel drives, semi's, trailers, etc), and that didn't include the dozen I saw stuck on Deerfoot Trail in Calgary, where the top speed the traffic went for 30 minutes was 40km/h (approx 24m/h). We crawled. It was the scariest drive of my LIFE! I've never driven more than 3.5 hours alone--in the summer, at that--let alone 7 hours in the winter.

WAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

I left Red Deer at 8:45am, and I didn't get in until just shy of 5, which was just shy of 6 Sasky time. And I'm pretty sure there was some higher power looking out for me.......either that, or I'm just an awesomely cautious driver who knew when to drive the speed limit, and when to slow down significantly.

*sigh*

BUT, I did have an awesome drink at Starbucks yesterday--a Chai Eggnog Latte. OMFG, delicious. Go get one, right meow.

Anyway--back to my horrible attempt to unpack everything I've accumulated over the last 4 months. My closet is packed solid, all my dresser drawers are full, and I still have 8 boxes to unpack.

WHAT?!

It's weird to be home. I'd like to be out of here again by the spring...that's my plan at least.

Looooove,

- A very grateful and happy to have arrived home safe and sound Courtney

I am so very glad you made it okay. That is scary! I've got a friend whose parents live in Strathmore and her brother is in Standard and everyone was basically stranded, they shut the roads down again sometime last night....so its good you got through at least :-).

And as I type this I'm stuck at home because I can't even get my car out of the driveway.....I guess work will have to wait. ha :-).

P.S. I guess quitting ze job went over okay?

Quitting the job was fine, 'cause the manager had only scheduled me for like...16 hours, and I was "supposed to" have 35, so it was easier than anticipated...

And ugh....snow......so tired of it already.

I'm glad to hear you're out of that terrible living situation.
Your new avatar looks darling.
Stay off the roads, until spring, at least.

It's never a good thing when you hate EVERY SINGLE ONE of your bf's friends, and they happen to have a key to the apartment.

Sketchy at best, ugh.

But yes, I'll try and stay off the highway........for a few weeks, until I need to be on it again =(

But thanks for the compliment <3
